On October 9th 2005, Pakistan was hit by a considerable earthquake. The quake measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, and was located in the heart of Kashmir.

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf said that 19,000 people were killed and thousands made homeless.

THE CASUALTIES:

Now it is estimated that 51,000 people have died and more than 74,000 were injured it was expected to rise.

LIVING CONDITIONS:

It was hard for people to build tents because there are lots of mountains in Pakistan and it was very cold. Heavy rain and snow was forecast.

NOURISHMENT:

People had not eaten or drank anything for 3 days and they were starving to death. Roads were also damaged which meant it was hard for food to be delivered to where it was needed.

Why did so many people die in Pakistan during the Earthquake?

How do you feel about people dying of hunger?

How much did they need to raise? How much was raised?

These are two children who have lost their parents in the quake.
