Homelessness Issues In Zimbabwe

In 2000 the government of Zimbabwe introduced a Land reform programme. 4,400 whites owned 32% of Zimbabwe’s land.

The government wanted to return land to black workers, but the problem was that they were not paying the white farmers for the land. The white workers got beaten up by the black people. People were being moved from farms where they worked and they had to look for another job.

In the country everyone was all over the place. Some made shelters out of anything they could find even if it was a weak material.

Many families who were forced out of their homes now had nowhere to live. They had no jobs which meant no money and they were starving.

They were living on the streets and dying.

Many black families did not have medicines so when they fell ill they had nothing to make them better. Some of the black workers and white farmers were holding opposing sides. Aids made African people lazy in Zimbabwe.
Schools also reported that their attendance was dropping. The food program said about 3 to 4 million people needed food. They began trying to help these people out and stop more people dying from starvation.

Do you think the black and the whites should run the country?

How do you feel about people in this sad situation?

What do you think about children not going to school?
