Do you get stuck in traffic on the way to school?
Do you have problems finding somewhere safe to park?
Why don't you walk your children to school?
Lets not let the walk to school became something of the past !
Parents who walk , say it is worth it!
We started "Walk on Wednesday's" because we wanted to create
health awareness. But our road to school isn't safe for walking. Our school
gate leads directly on to a road that is always in use.

Why we need a School Crossing Patrol
Officer
Mowlem Primary needs a School Safety Patrol Officer because the roads
outside our school are hectic most times of the day. However our school
is currently promoting the healthier option of walking to school as most
of our students do already, but at present is this the safteset way? |

|
| Year 4 student Fathema Bibi wrote a letter to the London
Borough of Tower Hamlets Traffic and Transportation Office, requesting
a School Crossing Patrol Officer for the busy road outside Mowlem Primary.
|
|
Fathema received a reply from John Rymell, Safer Routes
to School Co-ordinator:

We did a survey and our findings shows that out of 225 children, 211
children walked to school.
So it's of the upmost importance that these children arrive to school
safely.

Why our School entrance is dangerous
We have designed a website to promote road saftey because our school
entrance way leads straight on to a busy road.
We want a S.C.P.O (School Crossing Patrol Officer). We need help crossing
the road because it is too dangerous for children.
In our P.E cupboard locked away, we have a lollypop stick for no one
to use.
|
We reported on the safety of the road outside our school and on the
main road through pictures and video recording.

to cross the road
At the end of this project (June) we are still waiting for a
reply from John Rymell.
Update Click
here to find out more
John Rymell contacted the school at the end of July. He
is working with the Head to develop a "School Travel
Plan" and identify road safety and streetscape measures
to improve outside the school.
Later he visited with the Head of Road Safety and also
the Metropolitan Police Traffic Management Officer.
He has arranged for an engineer to measure for a footpath,
improve the zebra crossing and find a School Crossing Patrol
Officer.
|
|
|
We have a zebra crossing on the main road but
it is no use to children because the drivers don't stop for little
children, they only stop for adults.
