Improving the Environment Around Our School.

Year 4 Students from Holy Family School have been filming the improvements around their school.

Outside they have changed their playground, pond and Nature area.

Inside they have changed their foyer, carpets, display areas, ICT room, toilets and signs on the doors.

The new bridge over our pond.

Before they put the bridge over the pond there was an overgrowth of grass and it was all green and grotty. When they made it better the new plants attracted frogs and insects.

They use this bridge to walk over the water so there are no incidents.

They enter this nature area to get to the pond.

The nature area used to be full of weeds and stinging nettles and then they put in new plants.

In the picture above you can see a compass. On the right hand side you can see the flower-board game.

One person gets the ball, and they have to try and throw it at one of the flowers. Other people have to stand on the flowers which are painted on the floor .If they hit the flower they get the amount of points it says.

" Ollie, Ollie" the game.

To make playtime better for children they have Playground Buddies.

The Playground Buddies had five days of training to lean how to play safely. The teachers taught the Playground Buddies at least twenty five games. Then the Playground Buddies tested how good they were with two classes. They split the two classes into 5 groups to play the games.
The Playground Buddies in our class are;
Brogan, Georgia, Tomas, Thomas, and Kieran.

One of the games is called "Ollie, Ollie, who's got the ball."

They used to have two computers in their classroom. They had to wait a very long time to go on them. Now they can go to the ICT room, which has 16 computers.

A year four girl enjoying a website.
Everyone in the class took part in making a film.

These webpages were made in 3 groups by Becky, Brogan, Chantelle, Danny, Francesca, George, Georgia, Kerris, Louise, Mellisa, Michael, Nichaela, Thomas and Tyrone.

They used an Apple Mac media kit, which included a digital camera, camcorder, ibook laptop, microphone & tripod, using iphoto, imovie, Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver software.

If you are a Tower Hamlets School, you can borrow a kit from the Humanities Education Centre on 02073646405. You will need to be trained in the use of the equipment.

When you play criss-cross or scissors, you have to land on the X in the middle!

EET says: Thank you for that helpful advice, Melissa.

I am a midday supervisor at St Josephs in Essex. We have french skipping ropes but no rules on how to play. Could you help us?

EET says: Dear Diana, We are not sure ourselves, but if anyone out there knows the rules, drop us a note in the box on the left.
