Using Recycled Materials
for Design & Technology at Sir William Burrough School

(For more information see our Safari section)

Children in Years 3 & 4 have been designing minibeasts.

They collected images from the Internet as a starting point, displayed on the classroom's Interactive Whiteboard. They then designed and made their minibeasts using recycled wire and aluminium. They reused aluminium printing plates.

They were supported by the school's Artist in Residence, Darcy Turner.

Darcy Turner works in schools, using recycled materials to support curriculum projects in the classroom. He has designed many of his tools specifically for safe classroom use. Apart from the "wire metal bashing" work he does in schools, he also carries out stixx newspaper construction, and mechanical wire and metal constructions (from giant windmills & waterwheels to bubble making machines).
