Have you ever travelled on the bus?

Do you know where your nearest bus stop is?

Do you know what bus route runs closest to you home?

Do you know what bus route runs closest to your school?

Into questions:

Has anyone been on the no.8 bus?

Does any one know some of the places where the no.8 bus stops?

Pair work:

1.      Look at the bus route for the number 8 bus (shown below)

2.      Make a note of where the route starts

3.      Now look at your photocopy of the street plan of London and look for the place where the route begins.  – Can you find Bow Church station? Mark this as where the bus route starts.

4.      Using a hightlighter pen or coloured pencil track the route of the No.8 Bus on a photocopied street plan of London.

5.      Indentify the significant places on the route of the bus, for instance: Bethnal Green station, Liverpool Street Station, St. Paul’s station, etc. Mark these places in a different colour.

Look at the display on the side of this bus that shows that places it stops at. What do you think the number of this bus is?

1.      Where do you think this might be?

2.      Look at this sign         on the wall. What do you think it represents?

3.      Look at the large board next to the small sign. What information do you think this might give to people?

1.      Do you know what this kind of staircase is called?

2.      Where do you think you might find a staircase like this?

3.      Have you ever been on a staircase like this?

4.      If you have describe what it was like. If you haven’t describe what you think it might be like.

Getting off tube

1.      What sort of train is this?

2.      Do you think these sorts of trains mostly travel above or below ground?

3.      Look at the black signboard in the middle of the picture – what information do you think this gives passengers?

4.      Look at a tube map and see if you can find the station shown on the signboard (it says Ealing Broadway).  Clue – the station is on the District Line (Green) and the Central Line (Red)

5.      Look the tube map – see if you can locate the stations that are closest to your school or home.
