School Councils in Action Teams:
an example of a successful structure and process
There are six Action Teams and their aims for this year
include:
Team A: Improvements to school buildings,
grounds and facilities including improving the Rose Garden and Courtyards,
eliminating graffiti and providing safe ramps and storage sheds for
skateboards
Team B: To improve student safety and safety
of possessions including a clearer approach to bullying such as homophobic
abuse, which all staff and students understand and better supervision
of open rooms/corridors at lunchtime
Team C: Rewards, communications and Equal Rights including
scraping a merit system and replacing it, using electronic message
boards, digital cameras and a weekly student newspaper to display and
inform on student activities/successes and reward 'badly behaved students'
who change their behaviour as well as rewarding 'well behaved students'
Team D: To improve relationships with the Local
Community and activities for students and after school programmes including
working with local residents to improve relationships in the community
Team E: Raising awareness of and funds for a
local, national and international charity including making arrangements
for Non-Uniform Days and other fund raising and to visit and get to
know the charities which the school supports and share details with
Year groups through displays and briefings
