Parliament and the work of an MP

   

Parliament is the most important democratic institution in the United Kingdom and is made up of the Monarch, the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

The Houses of Parliament is in Whitehall in London, and is the home of our Government. The Government is like the management of the country and it decides how things should be run. One of Parliament’s most important tasks is to check that the Government is doing its job properly.

Year 5 students from Christchurch School looked at the Houses of Parliament leaflet "The Work of an MP" to get a better understanding of an MP.

They then met the researcher of their local MP, George Galloway to find out about the role of an MP.
