Speak up, Speak Out

(Understanding Democracy)

Janusz Korczak "Champion of the Child"

Year 3, 4 and 5 children visited the Jewish Museum in Camden to find out about Janusz Korczak, "Champion of the Child" (1878-1942)

The children looked at an exhibition to find out the work of Korczak.

Korczak said

"Children are not the people of tomorrow, but the people of today.
They have the right to be taken seriously, to be treated by
adults with tenderness and respect.
They should be allowed to grow into whoever they are meant to be.
The unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future."

UNESCO declared 1979 the Year of the child, and also declared it The Year of Janusz Korczak to mark the centenary of his birth.
