Speak Up, Speak Out

(Understanding Democracy)

Christchurch School

Students spent a week exploring the concept of democracy,
to understand children's rights and have a voice.

We began the week by thinking about what would be
Our Ideal School

We had a visit from a pupil and a teacher at
Summerhill School
an "Ideal School" based on direct democracy.

We visited the Jewish Museum and found out about
Janusz Korczak

" Champion of the Child"

We had a session to find out more about Children's Rights

We discovered the
Role of an MP

We learned all about
Lobbying

We looked at
Voting

Our Year six learned about the
Rewrite the future campaign

We took part in a national review of education called
The Primary Review

We finished the week with an
Assembly
to share what we had learned with the whole school.
