master silk weaver's home, whose shabby frontage conceals a
rare surviving synagogue built over its garden. |

House was built in 1535 by Sir Ralph Sadleir, a rising
star at the court of Henry VIII. Oak-panelled rooms and carved
fireplaces survive intact and an exhibition tells the history
