The Singing Playground
(17' X 7.5' ; mixed media on paper by Dan Jones)

This wonderful piece of work can be seen in the Museum of Childhood from mid-November 2004. The work features 148 childrens game from playgrounds all over London and the world. The songs and rhymes from 60 different countries are written in their own languages and scripts. It is an interactive piece of art work. You can listen to the songs by pressing a button. The song that you choose will be highlighted and the music will be played through the speakers.

Click on one of a few hotspots across the image above (hint: there are 5 across the top, 1 on in the right edge, 1 on the bottom left) to see close up of the work and listen to the rhyme

Did you listen to the rhymes and close-ups ...(hint: there are 5 across the top, 1 on in the right edge, 1 on the bottom left).

Really interesting - will use it with my Year 8s doing some work on oral tradition/playground games. Is there a poster or a website that shows all the texts? Love the multi-cultural element.

EET says: Thank you Elizabeth, You can see the text at the Museum of Childhood.
