Ring-a-Ring o'Rosies
A Pocket full of Posies
"A-tishoo! A-tishoo!"
We all fall Down!
Ring-a-Ring o'Rosies
Picking up the daisies
a-tishoo a-tisoo
we all jump up
Ring around the rosy
A pocketful of posies
"Ashes, Ashes"
We all fall down!
The modern version you see in the video clip is verse two, above. Verse
three, above is the original.
The real name of this rhyme is "Ring Around the Rosy"
When you got the plague, you got a rosy red rash in the shape of a ring
on the skin (Ring around the rosy).
People filled their pockets full of sweet smelling herbs (posies) to
stop the bad smell.
"Ashes, Ashes" is about burning the dead bodies. (Called cremation)
