The Haunted School

On the 29th of June, 1952 a Mr. Hardy was appointed headteacher. He was a married man and reportedly had a beautiful, kind wife. Mrs. Hardy played the piano for the school and was well liked by the children.

Sadly, on a trip overseas she died in a car crash. Mr. Hardy was heartbroken. He was so heartbroken he could no longer face being the headteacher of the school his wife had loved so much.
After Mr. Hardy left, the children heard piano noises coming from the attic. It sounded like Mrs. Hardy playing her favourite song. The children felt a bit scared, frightened. They wondered if Mrs. Hardy had come back. They knew how much she loved the school. Some brave children went up into the attic and saw a ghostly figure playing the piano.

This was the start of the legend of The Grey Lady.

Hear the Headteacher talk about The Grey Lady

To calm the children down the new headmistress, Miss Parry, had the piano moved from the attic to the top hall. This should have stopped the story, but...it didn't!
The Grey Lady started to roam the school.

She has been sighted in the old outdoor toilets.

The boys say that they can hear water in the old toilets running. It doesn't stop; it just carries on. When people investigate, they find nothing but the toilets.

The Grey Lady has also been sighted in the Infant's toilets and most worrisome of all in the Juniors' toilet where she makes the doors creak.

Can you see The Grey Lady scratches on the door?

Even the strongest, toughest boys have been frightened by her. Junedh, a big boy, reports that if you look into the mirror, in the Junior boys' toilets, and say "Grey Lady" three times the noises start.
