Clement Attlee

A Prime Minister from our Area.

Clement Attlee helped out at a boy’s club in Stepney. He developed an interest in problems the people had.

There was a problem with violence, lack of money, and the houses were run down.

People also got paid very little for the work they did. Their bosses often cheated them. People had to do what the bosses said. The bosses got away with it because there were no laws to protect the people.

Clement Attlee wanted to help the people. He moved into East London and lived here for fourteen years. He became the Mayor of Stepney. Mayors can makes laws and convince people to be fair and look after each other.

Clement Attlee became a Member of Parliament for Limehouse and remained a Member for six years and ninetytwo days. After WWII, Clement Attlee became Prime Minister.
Everyone should be treated equally no matter who they are.
An NHS Nurse
When Clement Attlee was PM, he created the National Health Service. Before the NHS people had to pay to see a doctor or to go to hospital. Poor people couldn’t afford to see a doctor, so they stayed sick, got worse or died. He also created the National Insurance Service to help people who were old or didn’t have a job. People like that could receive benefits.
