The children being helped with their sewing, from the parents,
artists, & women’s groups at Dora Hall.

"Stitches in Time" and the Museum of Docklands

Sketching Nonsuch Manor on the Tudor London Bridge
Children from Stepney Greencoats, & Sir William Burrough Schools are very excited to be part of a project with "Stitches in Time" and the Museum of Docklands.

Sketching Victorian Artifacts

The Museum has asked them to create a tapestry to hang in their Entrance hall. Children from the schools, along with parents, a local women’s group, Elders from Locksley and Stepney, with artists from
Stitches in Time, visited the museum and sketched different exhibits on display.
Sketching Tudor Dock-workers tools

The children spent an afternoon looking at artifacts linked to their class work. Children from Stepney Greencoats looked at Victorian artifacts and the children from Sir William Burrough looked at Tudor artifacts.

Transfering a sketch onto material
When everyone had finished sketching their artifacts, they
all went back to their schools and centres. The next stage was to begin transfering each sketch onto material.

Di demonstrating how to transfer sketches

They used carbon paper to transfer the sketch onto the material, and then outlined them in ink.

Painting their material patches

When the image was transfered, the children painted their material patches, before they started sewing them.
